What a payment gateway is.

A payment gateway is the technology that securely moves card data between your site and the card networks. When a customer types in their card at checkout, the gateway encrypts those details, sends them off for authorization, and brings back an approved or declined answer in a couple of seconds.

You don’t see any of that work. Your customer sees a clean checkout, and you see the money land. The gateway is the part that makes online payment processing safe and reliable behind the scenes. Payment gateway vs virtual terminal, what is the difference?
A payment gateway powers online checkout, where your customer enters their own card on your website. A virtual terminal is a secure page where you key in the card yourself, for phone and mail orders. Many businesses use both: a gateway for the website and a virtual terminal for orders taken over the phone.
Does it work with Shopify or WooCommerce?
