How we price in Canada

Interchange-plus first, with Interac priced as Interac. Dual pricing where your province allows it.

Where we start

Interchange-plus

  • What it is: the card brands’ cost passed straight through, plus one clear markup you can see.
  • Interac: priced as Interac, on its own, never at a credit-card rate.
  • Who it fits: any business that wants to check every number, especially debit-heavy ones.
  • What you pay: the card brands’ cost plus our markup, both shown on your statement.
Where allowed

Dual pricing (cash discount)

  • What it is: you post a card price and a cash price. Customers who pay by credit card cover the card fee.
  • Where: most provinces. Never in Quebec, and never on Interac debit.
  • Who it fits: businesses outside Quebec that want to offset their credit-card processing cost.
  • What you pay: less on credit cards, since card customers cover the fee. Interac stays priced as Interac.
One $50 Interac tap, two bills: $0.80 billed like a credit card vs $0.05 billed as Interac Two receipts for the same $50 CAD Interac debit tap. Billed like a credit card at 1.5% plus $0.05, the fee is $0.75 plus $0.05, which is $0.80. Billed as Interac, there is no percentage, just one flat fee of about $0.05. A side card shows the gap: $0.80 vs $0.05 on the same tap, 16 times more. Example amounts, illustration, not a quote. ONE $50 INTERAC TAP Same customer, same bank card, same $50. Pricing questions, answered plainly

How should Interac debit be priced?
Interac generally costs far less to accept than a Visa or Mastercard credit card. On transparent pricing it is priced on its own, not blended in at a credit-card rate. Flat-rate apps that charge one rate on everything overcharge you on Interac, which adds up fast on a debit-heavy business.
What is interchange-plus pricing?
It passes the card-brand cost straight through to you and adds a separate, fixed markup you can see. It prices Interac and credit separately, so debit is never billed like credit, and nothing is blended or hidden.
Do you offer dual pricing in Canada?
Yes, where it’s allowed. You post a card price and a cash price, and customers who pay by credit card cover the card fee. It’s never offered in Quebec and never applies to Interac debit, which stays priced as Interac. We confirm the rules for your province before setting anything up.
Can I surcharge credit cards in Canada?
In most provinces you can surcharge credit cards since 2022, capped at 2.4 percent or your cost of acceptance, whichever is lower, with notice, signage, and a separate receipt line. It isn’t permitted in Quebec, and never on Interac debit. See our surcharge checker.
Are there contracts or cancellation fees?
No. We don’t use long-term contracts or cancellation fees. The Code of Conduct for the Payment Card Industry in Canada also protects your right to clear pricing and fair cancellation terms.
