Credit card processing in the Northwest Territories

From Yellowknife to Hay River, businesses in the Northwest Territories are often quietly overpaying to accept cards, and many are paying credit-card rates on Interac without knowing it. This is a smaller, more remote market where reliable mobile and terminal payments matter, and we set that up. We show you exactly what you pay and what each fee is for, and help you lower it. No contracts, no cancellation fees.

What Northwest Territories businesses actually pay

Most businesses don’t overpay because they made a bad choice. They overpay because the statement is built to be hard to read. There is also a common trap: Interac debit, which should cost far less than credit, is often billed at a credit-card rate by flat-rate apps. We translate your statement into one honest number, your effective rate, and check that Interac is priced like Interac.

One $50 Interac tap, two bills: $0.80 billed like a credit card vs $0.05 billed as Interac Two receipts for the same $50 CAD Interac debit tap. Billed like a credit card at 1.5% plus $0.05, the fee is $0.75 plus $0.05, which is $0.80. Billed as Interac, there is no percentage, just one flat fee of about $0.05. A side card shows the gap: $0.80 vs $0.05 on the same tap, 16 times more. Example amounts, illustration, not a quote. ONE $50 INTERAC TAP Same customer, same bank card, same $50. Interac is not a credit card, and should not be priced like one. Reliable payments in a remote market

In a smaller, more remote market, the payment setup has to keep working when connectivity isn’t perfect. We help you put reliable mobile and terminal payments in place, so you can take a card on the counter, on the road, or at a job site, with Interac priced correctly throughout.

Surcharging in the Northwest Territories

Since October 2022, surcharging credit cards has generally been allowed across most of Canada. Where it applies, a surcharge is capped at about 2.4 percent, and you must give customers proper notice and disclosure at the point of sale and on the receipt. You can never surcharge Interac debit. This is general information, not legal advice, and rules differ by region and change over time. Use our surcharge checker for the current picture, and we confirm the rules before configuring anything.
