From Capitol Hill and Georgetown to Navy Yard and U Street, DC added an all-in pricing rule in September 2026 and has a specific notice rule for tips. We show you exactly what you pay and set it up correctly. No contracts, no cancellation fees.
Under D.C. Code 28-3904(a)(12), as rewritten by the Enhancing Consumer Protection Procedures Amendment Act of 2026, it is an unfair trade practice to advertise, display or offer a price that leaves out any mandatory fee or charge, other than government taxes and fees and actual shipping costs.
A card surcharge the customer can avoid by paying cash or debit may not be a mandatory fee, but there is no official guidance yet. DC has no surcharge ban or cap of its own, so the card-brand rules apply, together with DC's general rule on clear disclosure. We plan for the conservative reading.
To pay the tipped minimum wage, a DC employer must give tipped employees written notice of, among other things, the percentage by which card tips will be reduced for card fees (D.C. Code 32-1003(g)(1)(D)).
Dual Pricing shows the card price and the cash price up front, which is the conservative route under the 2026 rule. If you deduct card fees from tips, we make sure the written notice is in place first.
Check any state in our surcharge checker. Rules change, so we confirm the current position before configuring anything. This is general information, not legal advice.
